Mayor Woodfin appoints two to Birmingham Airport Authority
Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin has announced two appointments to the Birmingham Airport Authority Board of Directors.
The appointees are Robert Earl Kelly and Ashby Pate.
Kelly founded Kelly Road Builders in 1999 which is considered one of the largest road milling companies in the Southeast. Kelly has also founded Kelly Natural Gas Pipeline. A current member of the Birmingham Airport Authority, Mayor Woodfin is reappointing Kelly to a second six-year term effective July 30, 2020.
Pate is a partner with the law firm of Lightfoot, Franklin & White, LLC. Previously, Pate served as a justice on the Supreme Court of the island nation of Palau where he helped create that country’s first-ever judicial trial system. He also served as a judicial clerk for U.S. District Judge U.W. Clemon.
Pate’s six-year term also begins July 30, 2020. He replaces Edgar Marx whose term expires July 29.
“The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is a vital part of the region’s economic competitiveness,” Mayor Woodfin said. “We are very fortunate to have these committed professionals provide this public service.”
The Birmingham Airport Authority was established in 1986 to manage the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport and continue its growth. The Birmingham Airport Authority is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors, appointed by the Mayor of City of Birmingham and confirmed by the Birmingham City Council. The day to day operation is managed by the President and CEO and The Birmingham Airport Authority staff of over 100 employees within five departments.
