City of Birmingham announces an internet subsidy program
Birmingham, AL – The City of Birmingham, in partnership with the Affordable Connectivity Program and EducationSuperHighway, is presenting Connect99, an awareness campaign to inform residents about a federal subsidy towards internet service.
“Having the ability to connect to high-speed internet is now a basic need,” said Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin. “We are thrilled that our federal government is providing this service and want to do all we can to make sure eligible residents in all 99 neighborhoods have access to this resource.”
The Affordable Connectivity Program provides eligible households with $30 per month toward high-speed home internet service, making some plans FREE! The ACP benefit can be applied to a new or existing internet plan. Additionally, eligible households will receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from eligible providers, if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.
The GetACP.org pre-enrollment tool simplifies the ACP enrollment process by helping applicants to check their eligibility, determine the easiest way to qualify, identify the documents needed when applying, and find “free with ACP” broadband plans available at their address.
