Birmingham Bowl 2021: Here’s what you need to know about parking

More than 40, 000 people will be in and around Protective Stadium on Tuesday, Dec. 28 for the Birmingham Bowl, which will see the Auburn Tigers face off with the Houston Cougars. Fans are expected to start filling up downtown with traffic and such as early as 9 a.m. Also, the Boutwell deck will be used as one of several parking options. Some streets right around the stadium will be closed.

Also, please know that fan events will also take place on Monday, Dec. 27. Closures  at Uptown (Richard Arrington) will be put in place at 6 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 27 and will remain closed throughout Monday and Tuesday. The larger area closures shown on the website will start closing at  7 a.m. on Tuesday, and will remain in place all day. James Fowler anticipates closed streets to reopen by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28.

Timeline for Monday, Dec. 27 in Uptown

  • Streets close at 6 am
  • Shuttles from Doubletree hotel on 280 and from the Galleria will begin at 11 a.m. Go here for more info on these shuttles.
  • Uptown parking opens at 12 p.m.
  • Bud Light Fan Fest and Pep Rally in Uptown – 1 to 6 pm
  • Houston pep rally – 5 to 5:30 pm
  • Auburn pep rally – 5:30 to 6 pm
  • Fireworks atop stadium scoreboard – 6 pm
  • Fans leave – 6:15 pm

Timeline for Tuesday, Dec. 28:

  • Shuttles from Doubletree hotel on 280 and from the Galleria will start at 7 am
  • Stadium box office opens at 8 am
  • Fan Fest starts at 8 am
  • BJCC parking lots to open at 8 a.m.
  • Boutwell deck will open at 7 a.m. (But organizers do not think fans will start parking there until about 8 a.m.)
  • Live music in front of stadium from 8 am to 10:50 am with Fan Fest
  • Cougar Walk at 8:30 am from Eastern ballroom and walk down Richard Arrington Boulevard
  • Tiger Walk at 8:55 am from 24th Street North down Arrington Boulevard
  • Stadium gates open at 9 am
  • Kickoff is at 11:03 am
  • Game is expected to end around 2:30 pm
  • Fireworks at the end of the game
