Mayor Woodfin appoints Jessica Hughes Bennett to Land Bank Authority
Birmingham, AL — Mayor Randall L. Woodfin has appointed Jessica Hughes Bennett to the Land Bank Authority. Hughes, who is filling a previously unexpired term, will serve effective immediately through August 19, 2022.
“As we work to breathe new life into blighted areas and develop innovative strategies to build up our neighborhoods, it is critical that we have servant leaders in place to advocate for the best interests our community,” Mayor Woodfin said. “Jessica is well-suited to serve the people of Birmingham in this role.”
Hughes currently serves as associate architect for Architecture Works where she is the day-to-day project manager for all phases from planning through construction. In her role, she also presents and prepares documents for review by local governments; participates in recruiting, interviews, and hiring; as well as works directly with clients for precedent studies and material selection. Hughes formerly served as architect and BIM coordinator for CMH Architects and architectural designer for LIVE Design Group.
The Auburn University alumna is a member of Design Alabama as well as the American Institute of Architects. She has also served as a junior board member for the Railroad Park Foundation.
The Birmingham Land Bank Authority serves the citizens of Birmingham by working collaboratively and transparently with community stakeholders and the City of Birmingham to steward vacant, abandoned, and tax-delinquent properties and dispose of them to the best use as defined by the needs of the community to reduce community blight, stabilize neighborhoods, facilitate community civic, and commercial redevelopment, and to increase community and overall City of Birmingham property values while returning such properties back to the tax rolls.
