City of Birmingham launches photo challenge in connection to city’s 150th anniversary
BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA — July 26, 2021 — In yet another way to celebrate the City of Birmingham turning 150 this year, organizers have launched The Birmingham View Photo Challenge, where people may submit Birmingham photos in four categories. Photos must have been taken between 2019 and 2021 in Birmingham. Photos may be taken with a cell phone or a professional camera.
The deadline to enter is Sept. 2, 2021. Participants are only allowed to enter up to two photos. Winning photos will be featured at the Birmingham Museum of Art in October 2021. In June 2021, Mayor Randall L. Woodfin announced different initiatives of how the city would mark this major milestone for the Magic City. This initiative is just another way for the public to share how they see the city. The state legislature chartered the city on Dec. 19, 1871, which is the city’s official birthday. Photo Contest Categories
Contest entries will be judged on overall quality, creativity and how well the photograph portrays Birmingham.
Category 1: Events in Birmingham – Photos should capture special events or community celebrations, sports, concerts, etc.
Category 2: Cityscapes and Landscapes – Photo examples include Birmingham neighborhoods, shopping districts, streets, parks, trails and green spaces, businesses, etc.
Category 3: Birmingham Landmarks – Photos should feature iconic landmarks, city murals, etc. throughout Birmingham.
Category 4: People – Photos should reflect the true energy of the people in Birmingham. Examples can include people enjoying the outdoors, children playing, street scenes, people at work or play, memorable moments, life-touching scenes, weddings, family gatherings, volunteer efforts, etc.
Birmingham View Photo Contest Rules and Guidelines
- Contest is open to professional and amateur photographers
- Contest is open to all ages
- An individual may win in no more than two categories
- An individual may submit no more than two images
- All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. CDT Sept. 2, 2021.
- A completed and signed entry agreement must accompany each photo submitted. (Entry agreements by youth 17 years old and younger, must be signed by a parent or guardian. - Photos must be taken in Birmingham, AL
- Photos must have been taken between 2019 and 2021
