Deadline for the Mayor’s Initiative VISTA Service Opportunity is Jan. 24

Thursday, Jan. 24 is the deadline to apply for the Mayor’s Initiative VISTA Service Opportunity, which will focus on helping improve the quality of life for residents facing hardship.

This project is designed to expand the City of Birmingham’s reach in the areas of education, economic opportunity and healthy futures by developing new and supporting existing sustainable programs that cater to vulnerable populations.

The service areas for this job will include community and economic development, homelessness, hunger, public safety, neighborhood revitalization, education and more. VISTAS with work with veterans, educate youth, assist low-income households and help those impacted by the Opioid crisis. VISTAS will also research and provide educational and capacity-building opportunities to nonprofit partners, city departments and social service agencies.

VISTA program benefits include:

  • Health coverage
  • Childcare assistance, if eligible

This program is funded by a new grant from the Corporation of National and Community Service. These are yearlong service opportunities.
