Cars parked along Magic City Classic parade route will be towed starting at 5 a.m. Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, AL – In an effort to provide a safe and secure Magic City Classic parade, Birmingham Police have covered downtown parking meters with signs that indicate parking is not allowed along Saturday’s parade route. Any cars found parked along the parade route, starting at 5 a.m. this Saturday, will be towed. The parade will start at 8 a.m.
Birmingham police want to do anything they can to keep the public safe, but they also need to keep traffic moving.
If a fan’s car is towed, they should contact Weil Wrecker at 251-4060.
 
Here are a few things for fans to remember this Saturday:
 
The parade route
 
Parking around Legion Field
  • The perimeter around Legion Field will close at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The perimeter includes Eighth Avenue West, Graymont Avenue, Arkadelphia Road and Center Street. Vehicles will be detoured before they reach the closed streets. Anything illegally parked at or around Legion Field will be towed.
 
ATVs are not allowed at Legion Field
  • The use of ATVs and motorcycles is prohibited on Legion Field grounds. Anyone caught using an ATV will be cited, and the ATV will be impounded.
  • Golf carts may only be driven on Legion Field property and not on the roadway. Anyone violating this will be cited, and the golf cart will be impounded.
  • Drones are prohibited on and above Legion Field grounds.
 
The areas where the shuttles pick up and drop off fans must remain clear of parked cars
  • There will be a shuttle pick-up/drop-off location at Uptown, 2102 Richard Arrington Boulevard. Starting at 5 a.m. on Saturday, any cars parked on both sides of 23rd Street North between Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard and 11thAvenue North will be towed. This stretch of the road must remain clear for shuttles.
 
  • There will be a shuttle pick-up/drop-off location across from Phillips Academy at Seventh Avenue North and 23rd Street North. Cars parked on the north side of Seventh Avenue North between 22nd Street and 23rd Street North will be towed, starting at 5 a.m. on Saturday. This stretch of the road must remain clear for shuttles.
 
  • Starting at 5 a.m. on Saturday, cars should not be parked along 22nd Street North between 7th Avenue North and 8th Avenue North, east side of the roadway or on 23rd Street North between 7th Avenue North and 8th Avenue North, west side of the roadway. Any cars parked here will be towed, starting at 5 a.m. on Saturday.
 
Shuttles for the Magic City Classic
Game day shuttles, which are $5, will take fans from one of three Birmingham locations to Legion Field and back.
Shuttles will run continuously throughout the day and will stop running from Legion Field at 10:30 p.m.
Fans may catch shuttles at:
Birmingham CrossPlex, 2331 Bessemer Road
  • These shuttles will run from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Estimated shuttle ride is 20 minutes.
  • Cash and credit cards accepted.
Uptown, 2102 Richard Arrington Blvd.
  • These shuttles will run from 12 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Estimated shuttle ride is 15 minutes.
  • Cash and credit cards accepted.
Parking area across from Phillips Academy at 7th Avenue North and 23rd Street North
  • These shuttles will run from 12 to 10:30 p.m.
  • Estimated shuttle ride is 15 minutes.
  • Only cash will be accepted for this shuttle.
Children 12 and under will receive free shuttle rides. (***Must be accompanied by an adult.***)
Parking at the lots for the shuttle rides is free.
Legion Field’s bag policy
  • Prohibited items include: Purses and bags larger than 1″x4.5″x6.5″, non-see thru cinch bags, diaper bags, fanny packs, backpacks, strollers, luggage (all types), seat cushions with compartments, selfie sticks, tripods, video cameras and recorders, weapons of any kind, illegal drugs, umbrellas, cigarettes, etc.  Click here for full list and information.
