I-59 NB exit to 22nd Street to close Sept. 6 in Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM – As construction continues in Birmingham to improve the I-59/20 and I-65 Interchanges, the Alabama Department of Transportation announces the following closure:
* On Thursday, September 6 at 8 p.m., the I-59/20 Northbound exit to 22nd Street will be permanently closed to facilitate the construction of the project.
* As an alternative route, motorists are encouraged to use the newly opened 17th Street exit ramps.
Message boards and all necessary traffic controls will be in place.
This work is a part of Phase III of the I-59/20 Central Business District (CBD) Interchange and Bridge Replacement Project.
Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area.
