Free colon cancer screenings for uninsured individuals will be held on March 3
Southeast Gastro is offering free colon cancer screenings for uninsured individuals on Saturday, March 3 at the OSE Surgery Center, St. Vincent’s East Campus. However, Friday, Feb. 23 is the deadline to sign up to be considered. The company will offer 50 free colonoscopies. The process will include prep, sedation, a colonoscopy and pathology.
This community event is being offered as part of March being Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Potential screening candidates should be uninsured, asymptomatic and between the ages of 50 – 64 (45 – 64 for African Americans).
If you know of someone in need of a colonoscopy, contact Southeast Gastro’s GivingBack scheduler at 205-397-1430. All patients must be referred by their primary care physician. Patients must come in person and before the procedure to discuss their medical history. They will also receive a prep kit and instructions.
Again, all procedures will be performed on March 3. The deadline for referrals is Feb. 23.
